The Amazing Race

On Thursday, all of the grade 3’s in our town got together to do an Amazing Race! Students were mixed up into teams and had to complete several fun and hilarious tasks. Check out some of the photos from the day:

Middle School Here We Come!

Next year, the students in our class will be heading to the middle school in our town, along with three other grade 3 classes (soon to be grade 4’s!). In order to smooth this big transition, we have planned a number of get togethers and events this year so that students can get to know one another (stay tuned for our Amazing Race on Thursday, June 20 12-6:30).

Today, we all got to go and visit the middle school. The grade 4’s were very helpful in showing us around. We had a great time!

Here are some of our thoughts about going to middle school – Operation: Next Year

Any questions you still have about going to middle school can be posted on here and I will forward them to Ms. Johnson and Mrs. MacLeod – your new principals next year!

Each Kindness

We have just finished a SMART story learning sequence called “Each Kindness” by Jacqueline Woodson.

Each Kindness

As our culminating activity, we want to reinforce the importance of acts of kindness. We are stressing the deeper meaning of kindness and how these acts of kindness have the ripple effect and how they can affect people in our community.

Check out the Kindness Boomerang video

The task is for students to demonstrate the ripple effect of being kind. We have given each student two special rocks. Students will show an act of kindness to someone and give them both rocks. They need to explain to the person who they showed kindness to and gave the rocks to, that they have to go and show an act of kindness and pass on that rock. Then students must find out what that act of kindness was. The final task is to report back to the class the two acts of kindness. We are really encouraging students to do this within the community, not just immediate family or classmates. Students need to be able to report back by Friday, June 14.

Click The Ripple Effect Project for the student reporting sheet.

*Example* – show appreciation for community members (i.e. coach, music teacher, artist, musician, store clerk, etc.).

The definition of appreciation is: recognition of the quality, value, significance, or magnitude of people and things; an expression of gratitude.

Blast from the Past

Yesterday we took a field trip to a heritage town near our school. It was great to dress up and take an “old fashioned lunch”!

Science Fair 2013

After a long month of planting, growing, observing, watering, harvesting, baking, typing and drawing, the grade 3’s got to show off all of their hard work at our annual Science Fair. We are so lucky to have such an amazing person like Mrs. Driscoll to help us out and inspire us all. Way to go, everyone!

What was the coolest thing you learned about plants?
