If Kids Ran The World

If kids ran the world, we would make it a kinder, better place…

This is how the book,

starts. Our class performed this book as a choral reading at our assembly yesterday with Mrs. Sharpe’s class. Maylyn was one of the MCs for the assembly:

and Sonja played “O Canada” for our school to sing along to on the piano.

Way to go, girls!

I hope everyone was able to take a moment today to remember how lucky we are to live in a peaceful country like Canada.

On Friday, our school will be hosting our annual Ten Thousand Villages sale and our class will be hosting a tea as a pre-sale for seniors in our community.

Why are we lucky to live in Canada?

How does peace and the Ten Thousand Villages sale fit in with Remembrance Day?

Mr. Peabody’s Apples

We have been reading the story, “Mr. Peabody’s Apples” by Madonna over the last couple of weeks and talking about the messages in this tale.

Mr Peabodys AppleTo help our understanding, we participated in some drama and art activities.

Sewing Pillows

Like the pillow in the story and the damage that can be done when something untrue is said about someone, our pillows represent the power of words.

What was the lesson in Mr. Peabody’s Apples?

How did you feel cutting and sewing your pillows?

Dot Day!

Did you know that today is International Dot Day?

We read the story, “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds, and were inspired to participate in dot day today by wearing dots, creating dots, eating dots, and playing with dots!

Random Acts of Kindness

It is Random Acts of Kindness Week! This week has been created to show people how one simple act of kindness can spread kindness all around.

In our classroom we have:

  • looked at kindness research performed all around the world
  • participated in a learning sequence using the book, Each Kindness

  • watched the Kindness Boomerang video

  • created kindness graffiti

  • developed our own kindness project

How can you show kindness?

Today We Remember

Today is Remembrance Day. We had our assembly yesterday and our class did very well presenting I Have the Right to Be a Child by Aurélia Fronty.

We have been talking a lot about our rights and freedoms that we are so lucky to have here in Canada.

IMG_4234 IMG_4233We also had a chance to talk about animals in war. Students received a newspaper to check out some interesting Tales of Animals in War.

Choice Time

In classrooms around our school, the first 15 minutes of every day are spent doing Choice time activities. After students in our class have retrieved their ball from the gym and opened their planner on their desk, they are welcome to engage in many different activities in our classroom while socializing with their classmates. This helps everyone settle in for the day at school. Here are some of their choices:

BE

Today we made a bulletin board for our classroom. On it we posted the values of our classroom, words we want to aspire to BE:

Our board isn’t finished. We have several strips of paper on the side so that we can add words we believe in to our board.

Have you thought of a word you would like us to add to our board?
