Family Literacy Week

We are celebrating Family Literacy Week at our school. To promote literacy at our school our generous PAC donated a new book to each student in our school! Our class each got a fairy tale book. We are excited to start making a bitstrips comic to create our own mixed-up fairy tales!

Buddy Book Bags

This year for buddy book bags, our class decided to do something a little different! Mrs. Driscoll found some reusable pillow cases for us last year that we were able to cut in half. Viktor’s mom volunteered to sew them up and add a handle for us, and then we were able to decorate! We used fabric crayons and spray paints to personalize our bags.

My Pedagogy

Pedagogy is the science and art of education. Here is a collection of some of my personal highlights over the past two years at our school. I am so pleased to be back at our school again in the fall :)!

A New Novel

This week we started reading a novel in our class. We haven’t learned the title of the story yet, but we have met some of the characters. Messy Michael and Neatness Nut Norman are brothers with some very strange plants. The brothers share a room, which isn’t always easy.

Write a headline in the padlet below to describe our story so far. Be sure to put your name and then headline:

We chose to hang out in our Outdoor Classroom today to listen to the story and then create some images and questions.

Are you more like Messy Michael or Neatness Nut Norman? Have you ever had to share a room?

What do you think is happening to Michael’s socks? Do you think the boys will catch whoever is taking them?

What do you think is going on with these strange plants?

Reading with Expression

Today we started “Listening to Reading”. Over the next few weeks, we will be listening to some audio books that demonstrate reading with expression. One of the greatest storytellers that reads with AWESOME expression is Robert Munsch. Here is one of Mrs. Kostiuk’s favourite Robert Munsch books, “The Paper Bag Princess”, being read by the author himself!

In May, students will have the opportunity to bring a favourite book of their own from home to read with expression to the class!

Do you like listening to other people read? How do you think this can make you a better reader?

Do you have a favourite Robert Munsch book? If so, what is it?
