Dice Games

We have been learning some fun dice games during math!

Add it!

Two players each roll a dice at the same time. The first person to say the correct answer of the two dice added together gets a point. The first player to 10 points wins.

Subtract it!

Two players each roll a dice at the same time. The first person to say the correct answer of one dice subtracted from the other gets a point. The first player to 10 points wins.

Pig

Players take turns rolling one dice. Each time they write down the number they get until they get to 10 numbers. However, if a player rolls a 1 they must erase all of their points and start again. The first player to 10 numbers stops the game and adds up both players points. The player with the most points wins.

Each time you roll the dice look to see what move you need to do and do it!

Do you like addition or subtraction better?

Geodome Visit

Mr. Loftsgard and his grade 6/7 class stopped by our school today with their amazing geodome projects! This fits in perfectly with our learning of geometry!

How did these students make their geodome projects?

If you could do this project, what shape would you create?

Serving Salads

This month our class is working in small groups to prepare different salads for the class to try. This week students created a House Salad with ranch dressing. We set it up buffet style so that students could add their favourite veggies. Thanks to Mrs. Sharpe for this delicious idea!

What did you put in your salad?

What is your favourite kind of salad?

Multiplication Time!

We are very excited to be learning all about multiplication! This week we have focused on the 2 and 3 times tables. We have been using the fun site, Mathletics, and have a free 2-week trial with it. This week and next week students can click on the link and log-in. Usernames and passwords were sent home in planners.

Here are a couple of videos to help us learn the 2 and 3 times tables. Thanks to Mrs. Sharpe for finding these fun songs!

What multiplication tricks have you learned so far?
What do you think about Mathletics?

Musical Patterns

We have been learning about patterns in Math and today we got to create musical patterns. After checking out all of the fun the grade 3’s at our neighbouring school had creating musical patterns, we decided to make some of our own! Thanks for the idea, Mrs. Hammond and Ms. Sharpe! Check out their blogs to see what the other grade 3’s have been learning :).

Below is a playlist of musical patterns created in our class today.

What type of pattern did you create?

Which instruments did you use?

Dot Day!

Did you know that today is International Dot Day?

thedot2

We read the story, “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds, and were inspired to participate in dot day today by wearing dots, creating dots, eating dots, and playing with dots!
