Kindness Graffiti

To celebrate Pink Shirt Day students in our school met in the gym to create kindness graffiti! I can’t wait to see the final product :). We watched a few videos about kindness and then, as Kid President loves to say, “let’s dance!”

Here is a little project we worked on in our class to celebrate:

As a bonus, the girls in our class decided to create a puppet show to tell us all about how Pink Shirt Day began:

What is the story of Pink Shirt Day?

Wit, Whimsy, and Weirdness

Our class took a trip to The Wonder Fair at our local art centre this week. We were able to walk down during our Frolicking Friday time and spend some time admiring the beautiful art pieces created by local artists. We even did a fun collaborative project where we got to design robots!

Carnaval 2016

Yesterday we celebrated our annual Carnaval with French students from the high school as well as K-3 students from the other school in town. We had a great time outside! Here are some highlights:

Radical Acts of Kindness Challenge

It’s RAK week and whether you choose to acknowledge “Random Acts of Kindness”,”Real Acts of Caring”, or “Radical Acts of Kindness” as some students in our class liked to, the theme is kindness! We have a challenge this week in our classroom. Today we created a book of compliments. Students brainstormed 5 different compliments and are challenged to give one out a day all week long. The rules are that you can only give one compliment out to someone in our class. The rest have to be given elsewhere – to other kids or adults in the school, at home, to a neighbour or friend, to whoever you like! Students need to write down the names of who they gave their compliments to so that we can share at the end of the week. 20160215-152551.jpg

How are your compliment coupons going so far?

What reaction did you get after giving someone a compliment?

Fundraising for a Solar Panel

As part of our Green Games focus on solar energy this year, our school is also fundraising to buy a solar panel for our greenhouse. Our grade 3’s use the greenhouse lots in the spring to begin growing our science fair projects and the solar panel will help power a heater to keep our plants warm.

We already got a twitter response within minutes of Mrs. Kostiuk posting the above – wahoo!

Last week we got a special visit from our mayor to tell us all about our SunMine.

What did you learn about our SunMine?

Start thinking about your science fair project. What would you like to grow in the greenhouse?
