We Love Recycling!

Our school has been designated a “green school” because of the many environmental projects that we do! Here are a couple of things we have done this week:

Every year before Christmas we have a Recycled Shopping event. Families donate new and gently used items to the school and our amazing PAC group helps to set them up in the gym. Students in every class make tags (out of old Christmas cards) for their family members and get to visit the gym to shop. Thank you so much to all of our parent volunteers for making this event a great success every year!

This year we made our ornaments from frozen juice lids (thanks Mrs. Burgess for saving them!) and the rings from our jars of applesauce that we made in October. I think they worked out very nicely! Good work grade 2’s and 3’s!

Paper Lanterns and Christmas in the Summertime!

At the beginning of this week we travelled to China and Australia!

In China, Evan’s parents made us a cool video to learn about their traditions. Later, we got to make paper lanterns and hang them around our classroom!

IMG_0119 IMG_0118 IMG_0117In Australia, we had a special tour guide, Ava’s mom, who grew up in Australia! She told us about life in Australia and all of the different animals they have there.

IMG_0120We also checked out Christopher’s Travels Down Under. Christopher was a student in Mrs. Kostiuk’s class two years ago who went to Australia during December. He made a video to show us what it is like during Christmas in Australia.

What did you learn about China and Australia?
